Hunkering down and looking ahead in 2009

Happy New Year to all of our friends and family... it's been a bit quiet on the Kiyumi front recently, but not for lack of activity. We are gearing up for a VERY powerful year, full of pretty pieces, gorgeous photo shoots, and travel around the globe. Soon enough you might just be flipping through your favorite magazine and find us there... :)

We have much in the works for sales and shows, and as soon as we have a more solidified calendar, we will post all dates up here. We will also have a Gallery-style website soon, so stay posted.

I am eagerly awaiting Narayni's arrival tomorrow (better clean the studio up so we have space to collaborate!!) to Oakland. I have been banging away on the metal, and am so looking forward to when she gets here and we put two and two together. I have come up with several new designs since we came up with our first samples. she'll be here late, so it may be a late night getting things together for the show on Sunday... but i'm so looking forward to it. Really excited to share our new baby with the world!

Kiyumi Jewelry (pronounced KEY-YOU-ME) is the collaboration between Starbird Feather Mistress Narayani Matson and Orelafey Metalsmith Shira Loa. Think of the soft, light, airy beauty of feathers combined with sleek, earthy, organic metalwork, and you have Kiyumi Jewelry. Kiyumi means "pure beauty" in japanese, and with what has been happening in the studio between us... well, we thought it was appropriate!

Who knows why it took us this long to collaborate after years of friendship, living together and working side by side, but finally, it's happening... and we are so excited about the future. please check back for updates with pictures of our new and upcoming products, and for ways to buy at shows and stores around Oregon and California.
